Last week Ian was interviewed by Pat Meehan on his Near fm show. Below you can hear an excerpt of the interview that was recorded during the fm broadcast.
We will post the full interview once it becomes available through Near Fm's own podcast. Our film is featured in today's Irish Examiner.
Quite a lengthy piece written by journalist John Daly. Great to have such exposure in the national press to kick off the new year. This year marks the 150th anniversary of Dhammaloka's birth, so it is thrilling for me to see him get the recognition he deserves in the country he was born in. The newspaper will be on newsstands throughout Ireland today, or those of you outside of Ireland can read it on the Irish Examiner website here. ~Ian Those of you in the USA can now support our film through our fiscal sponsor the Buddhist Film Foundation and in turn be able to claim a tax write off.

I was invited to The Buddhist Society in London to give a talk on the subject of my film; U Dhammaloka. Being a person who is more used to being behind a camera and fading into the woodwork, this was a rather daunting task. Reassured by the presence of author & journalist for The Telegraph, Mick Brown acting as moderator I persevered. I stumbled through a shambolic presentation that was somehow well received by those in attendance. I guess the powerful story of Dhammaloka's history transcended my poor and nervous delivery. To mark the occasion, they had arranged to unveil a photograph of Dhammaloka in the library of the society after the talk. I stood by Mick as Desmond Biddulph, president of The Buddhist Society pulled the cloth revealing the image of Dhammaloka hanging on the wall, poetically right next to Allan Bennett. It was a very emotional experience for me, having championed this man to be brought back into public lexicon for the last year or so, this was definitely a victorious moment in this forgotten man's legacy. I am humbled to have had this opportunity to participate in this event and am grateful to everyone at The Buddhist Society for being so hospitable and accommodating, especially Odin Biddulph for inviting me and for organising it all. This amazing experience fuels my drive even more to get this film made. ~Ian
Somebody pinch me.
More news on this talk closer to the date.
I was a recently a guest on The Imperfect Buddha Podcast where I spoke with Stuart, one of the shows hosts, for about 20 minutes at the beginning of the show.
Thanks to both Matthew & Stuart for having me on the show and giving me an opportunity to spread the word of the film and of Dhammaloka to their audience. You can hear more of their shows here and be sure to visit their website posttraditionalbuddhism.com ~Ian

I was great to have a brief catch up with Laurence Cox last evening after his talk for Dublin's Culture Night.
He didn't stay long afterwards as he was eager to get back to the book he is writing about Dhammaloka. It was late friday evening. You have got to admire his conviction. I was there to capture the talk on film. I have yet to log and capture it but it was an incredible talk that I am looking forward to watching back. Who knows, parts may end up in the finished film. Big thanks to the staff at the Dublin Buddhist Centre for being so welcoming and accommodating. ~Ian This Friday the 18th, Dr. Laurence Cox will be giving a talk about the subject of Buddhism in Ireland as part of Dublin's Culture Night celebrations in the Dublin Buddhist Centre.
Invariably, there will be mention of Dhammaloka during the talk. I will be in attendance capturing it all on film. Do stop by and say hello! ~Ian More details on the Dublin Buddhist Centre website here. For more info on Culture night visit culturenight.ie |
